what the heck is going on here?

This is an official, legitimate, impregnable bastion of journalism. I am researching the weird, uncanny, and mysterious denizens of the globe's backyard. All profiles have been constructed from a basis of factual evidence, 1st person accounts, and a healthy amount of conjecture. If you or someone you know has encountered a strange creature, I implore you to submit a sighting. I will get to the bottom of it. Eventually. Be patient. Thank you.

what information is stored in the database?

When you sign the guestbook, you are submitting your alias, message, and image to a RLS policied database. The database additionally stores your ip address, and the time of submission. The IPs are only used to mititgate spam - I do not care where you are submitting from. In fact, do not post any personally identifying information.

Or they will find you.

The public endpoint has access to a database view without the IP addresses, so they are not publically available to read. This site was made for fun out of whimsy, and the data is not stored for profit nor for misuse. It's just a necessary part of having a guestbook.
